Volume Cutting Planes

Hi,

I am just starting to play with the VHTK and I would like to try a simple demo of rendering a cutting plane which passes through a volume dataset (i.e. the cutting plane shows an image of the volume data at the plane).

I can load a scalar volume as an ‘ImageObjectTexture’ using stuff I nicked from your sample x3d files but I’m not sure where to go from here.

Thanks,

Pete.

Hi Pete,

You can use the PointNormalClipPlane or ClipPlane nodes to clip the parts of the volume you want. Route in the haptics device position to move it around.

O.K. that’s pretty fun. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I actually wanted clipping planes after all ;) Sorry…

What I actually want is a 2D plane which has the appropriate slice of the volume rendered on it. That way I can have multiple planes all intersecting each other. I don’t even need to display the volume itself.

Cheers,

Pete.

Then you just have to use a simple geometry with the 3d texture you have on it and specify the appropriate texture coordinates/texture transform to get the correct part of the texture.
