The PHANToM Omni device is known to have issues with penalty-based feedback with much lower stiffness than for example the PHANToM Desktop device. The default stiffness used in VHTK is only 400 N/m because of these issues, but you could try lowering that value. That will have negative impact on the feedback fidelity, however.
There are two solvers available in VHTK. One solver that can take care of any haptic situation and one that is capable of handling specific, but very common, situations. The latter has better precision and is therefore less prone to vibrations. The system should automatically choose this solver, but numerical errors can make this automation fail. You can force the system to use it by putting an OrthogonalConstraintsSolver node under the VolumeHaptics node.

Hi everyone!!
I'll "exploit" this thread because something similar happens to me, too. I am using a Phantom Omni and I noticed that its behaviour is different, depending on the computer where my application is running. In fact, when a force is sent to the device, it vibrates a lot in one computer (iCore7, with Windows7, 32 bits), whereas it responds more smoothly in the other (Centrino Duo, Windows Vista, 32 bits). Also using the first computer with Debian in 64 bits, the Omni responds with vibrations. Thank you for any suggestion. And have a good night or day ![]() Paolo

Please start a new thread. Even though the topic is related, the original thread is too old. Also, give more information about software versions used.
